过去当同性恋行为尚被视为“社会禁忌”时，电影中（尤其国片）对同性恋者的描述往往流于偏颇敌视；可是在近年同性恋电影早已不是禁忌，甚至在数量上已多得流于泛滥时，这些影片对同性恋者的描述却大多流于“同志自大症”，反而瞧不起异性恋。这种矫相过正的歪风，其实并不利于同志运动的健康发展。因此，看到《猜、情、寻》的出现，实在令人感到惊艳之喜。
本片不应算是“同志电影”，但却对同性恋与异性恋的纠缠不清作出最清醒和最坦白的剖析。
女主角艾莉莎最先以同性恋者的姿态出现，但当她遇到了志趣相投的同乡漫画家霍登之后，便为了“爱情”而放弃同性恋者的身份，甚至不惜被同性好友视为叛徒。其后我们惊悉艾莉莎在高中时代不但不是同性恋，还跟两个男的一起玩放浪的性游戏，此事仿霍登受不了，他可以接受艾莉莎跟无数的“同性”XX，却不能接受她跟“异性”作淫荡的性交。
可是，艾莉莎对昔日的荒唐岁月并不后悔，她就是因为先前对男性失望才决定跟女性在一起，而后来又因找到理想的男性，而放弃跟女性在一起。换言之，在艾莉莎心目中，“同性恋”还是“异性恋”并不重要，重要的是“真正的爱情”。几段点题的演出因而有感人至深的表现。
本片除了对主题有深刻的探讨外，导演凯文．史密斯拍出了独立小制作的洒脱风格，对白极具开放和时鲜的语言魅力，爆笑效果不断。女主角乔依．萝伦．亚当斯将一个忠于自我的落翅仔演得入木三分，本．艾弗利克与贾森．李这两个新新人类漫画家也很讨喜。
